Peter Dinklage Has Big Words For Live-Action ‘Snow White’ Remake Take on Dwarfs

Peter Dinklage is easily the most famous actor with dwarfism to ever grace the silver screen. It’s no secret that the Game of Thrones actor is a proponent of proper representation and inclusion for dwarf actors. As a self-proclaimed “spokesperson for the rights of little people,” Dinklage has proven that it is possible for Hollywood to cast actors with dwarfism in roles other than elves of leprechauns. So it comes as no surprise that Dinklage isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to Disney’s upcoming remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

While speaking with Marc Maron on his WTF podcast, Dinklage had strong words about the upcoming remake. “You’re progressive in one way, but then you’re still making that f—ing backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f— are you doing, man?” He added, Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough. I don’t know which studio that is, but they were so proud of it. All love and respect to the actress and all the people who thought they were doing the right thing. But I’m just like, what are you doing?”

Considering that West Side Story star Rachel Zegler was cast as the first Latina woman to play a Disney princess, it’s interesting that the same movie seemingly refuses to update the dwarf characters. “Literally no offense to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White, but you’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. If you tell the story of Snow White with the most f—ed up, cool, or progressive spin on it? Let’s do it,” he said. “All in.”

Aside from the fact that Peter Dinklage seems to be petitioning for a role in the series, he also has a point here. For a company that has made a point to champion diversity in their movies, it seems odd that they would fall so… short on the matter. Nevertheless, The Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs remake is currently in production and directed by Marc Webb.
