Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park is almost 30 years old, which means that it’s about time for Hollywood to make a legacy sequel. Truth be told, the Jurassic Park films are perhaps the most profitable franchise to have the worst sequels. While The Lost World is a decent follow-up with a terrible third act, each subsequent movie has, quite frankly, been a letdown. In this sense, the Jurassic Park franchise has no reason to exist beyond Spielberg’s classic.
Five movies and almost three decades later, the trailer for Jurassic World: Dominion makes a case for none of the actors to make it out alive of this one. Even though Colin Trevorrow’s follow-up to Jurassic World is the first time that the original cast has reunited since the first film, the first trailer doesn’t give us much hope that the supposed final entry in the franchise will live up to the original.
As you can glean from the trailer, the best part about this film is seeing dinosaurs wreaking havoc throughout the world. Even though this lives up to the unfulfilled promise of Fallen Kingdom, it also makes us long for a National Geographic-style documentary with no human characters whatsoever. Regardless of how Dominion may turn out if the Quetzalcoatlus featured in the trailer doesn’t get the Rodan treatment, we riot.
In all seriousness, the dinosaurs in Jurassic World: Dominion seem to be the best part of this film. That’s right, the Jurassic movies are actually featuring feathered dinosaurs. This is something that has been the bane of archeologists since the original film, so at least there’s finally something more believable in the franchise than Chris Pratt’s acting. Jurassic World: Dominion arrives in theaters on June 10, 2022.
