Meanwhile in Georgia: Baseball Team Known For Its Dance Routines Has Somehow More Embarrassing Team Name

When you go to a baseball game, you expect a few key things during the experience: a cold, frothy beer, a so-bad-it’s-good hot dog, and a brutal brawl between fans in the stands. Oh, and you expect to see some baseball. One thing you don’t anticipate is a dance performance. But if you go to a Savannah Bananas baseball game, that’s exactly what you’ll get.

And, no, sadly we’re not talking about a glorified form of cheerleading. The players literally go out and bust a move on the baseball diamond. It’s the kind of embarrassing dancing that involves dorky choreography, a Beyoncé soundtrack, and social media-style enthusiasm.

We are so sorry to have to expose you to this, but if we had to suffer through it, so do you:

Founded six years ago, the Georgia-based Coastal Plain League team performs its dance routines in front of sold-out crowds. It also has close to 2.5 million followers on TikTok. People from all over the country actually travel to see the team and wait in epic lines to do so. No wonder they’ve earned the nickname of the “Harlem Globetrotters of Baseball.”

“We exist to make baseball fun, and put fans first,” Jesse Cole, the team’s owner and founder told CNN. “Baseball games are getting longer and slower, but our attention spans are shorter. We live in a TikTok world. People can get unbelievable entertainment with a flick of their finger. How do you create something that matches that?”

Well, this is certainly one way. We just have to ask, though: could have come up with a more embarrassing name than the Bananas? Come on, guys.
