Blur Reveal New Song Under The Westway

Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon performed a short gig in London last night as part of War Child’s pre-Brit Awards fundraiser, with their three-song set culminating with new track ‘Under The Westway’.

Introduced by Radio 1 DJ Edith Bowman, the duo played renditions of ‘He Thought Of Cars’ from their ‘The Great Escape’ album and ‘Strange News From Another Star’ from their self-titled album, which also marked the bands’ transition into more experimental territory.

Albarn introduced the new track, joking that “it’s got a lot of words” but “not as many as Ed Sheeran has”, who was the headliner of the event.

As fans have pointed out online the track shares similarites with Procol Harum’s ‘A Whiter Shade Of Pale‘, although it also sounds like it wouldn’t sound out of place in the back catologue of Albarn’s side project The Good The Bad And The Queen.

The band are set to pick up their Outstanding Contribution To Music award at the Brits tomorrow (21st February) with their acceptance of the award then being followed by a 10-minute set, the longest any act has ever received on the stage.

The Brits will also mark the first time the full band will have played together onstage since the T In The Park festival in 2009.
