As we kick off Day Four of Bonnaroo 2013, catch up with our ongoing coverage of the best damn festival North America has ever seen with a recap of Saturday’s events! Featuring Bjork, Jack Johnson, Portugal. The Man, Cat Power and more, the day was a sweat-fest marathon of excellent music and sun-kissed fun.
Progressive Assault Award: Death Grips
To the uninitiated, a Death Grips performance can be downright terrifying. A primal and incredibly raw intensity surges through the sound of Stefan “MC Ride” Burnett belting out barking vocal accompaniments to percussion-heavy prog-spaz punk freakouts, a true contrast to the general peace-and-love atmosphere of Bonnaroo.
Strangest Performance of Day 3: Weird Al Yankovic
Whether impersonating Kurt Cobain, covering Lady Gaga or simply losing his mind onstage, Weird Al kept a massive audience dancing frantically along with his breakneck-paced polka-laced cover song mutations. The spoof video interviews between songs sagged the momentum, but the nerd-frenzy celebration was on ten for 90 minutes of goofball overdrive.

Best Cover of The Day: Matt and Kim – “Push It” by Salt n Pepa
So premium. 90% of the crowd had no idea what the hell they were hearing (because the song’s older than they are), but it didn’t stop them from rocking out to the 1987 hit – a testament to the track’s greatness.

Quote of the Day: Kim Schifino of Matt & Kim
“If you wanna crowd surf while having sex, please feel free!”
‘Really F*%ed up, Or Just Weird?’ Award: Cat Power, who was a mess onstage but sounded fantastic

Dilated Pupils Award: Balloons with blinking lights
A blizzard of white balloons released into the sky during R. Kelly’s set made it very easy to tell who was awash in chemicals and who wasn’t. Reactions spanned from “Oh hey, that’s cool” to “OhmygodohmygodSTOP! Look up! Lookupohmygod… oh wow…”
Weirdest Outfit: Bjork, of course
Best Performance: Bjork
Backed by a 14-piece female choir and decked out in an ethereal jellyfish-porcupine outfit, the Icelandic enigma delivered powerfully moving, celebrated versions of “Hunter,” “Joga,” “Crystalline” and more. Eschewing much of her more obscurely dissonant recent material for songs the fans were familiar with, an aggressively climactic “Hyperballad” sent the crowd – a massive turnout which stretched all the way back to the main entrance – into a frenzy.
Painted Clothing Award: These girls
The ‘Ed Hardy’ Bro-Fashion Award: “I Fingered Molly” shirts
Odd Feels Award: “I Believe I Can Fly”
An ocean of ‘Roo revelers sincerely – and loudly – singing along with R. Kelly’s goofballishly melodramatic signature hit just after midnight was a mix of pure comedy gold and a genuinely touching moment.
Sugar-Crash Award: The best donut in history
These little fried rings of sugar-glazed dough are deliciously sweet enough to make Krispy Kreme donuts seem like handfuls of sand by comparison. Hot enough to burn your mouth and every bit as incredible to the taste, these are the perfect way to end a late night on the fields of ‘Roo.
Now for the Father’s Day fun on Sunday!
