Afraid of being unable to play the PS3’s best games once you dive head first into the next-gen? Sony has a solution.
Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed that sometime in 2014 Gaikai will be released on select PlayStation platforms. Using the software, gamers will be able to purchase from a growing library of PS3 games and play without the need for a PS3. Supported platforms include PS4, PS Vita, and PS Vita TV.
Gaikai is a streaming service, so a broadband internet connection will be required. Since the Vita and PS4 are incapable of running games built for PS3 architecture, the service is a last ditch solution. If you’re holding on to your PS3 so you can play some of its excellent upcoming games including Gran Turismo 5, The Last Guardian, and more, you now have leverage against your aging console.
