Two of Australia’s biggest music promoters and the South Australian government are working at bringing both The Rolling Stones and the Foo Fighters to Australia for stadium tours in 2014.
The South Australian government want to bring The Rolling Stones to Adelaide as part of the first live music event to be held at the city’s new $500 million Adelaide Oval stadium, according to the The Advertiser.
If successful, the event would mark the first time The Rolling Stones have visited the often musically overlooked city in nearly 20 years and is expected to attract some 70,000 people.
The Advertiser cites a number of “top-level sources” and says the government is willing to part with “several million dollars” in order to get the event going. Michael Gudinski’s Frontier Touring (Future Music Festival) is also supposedly looking to bring The Rolling Stones across, but like the Weatherwill government, isn’t offering any information at this point.
The Rolling Stones have played Adelaide just three times- at Centennial Hall in 1965, Memorial Drive in 1973 and Football Park in 1995 while the band last visited Australia in 2006, stopping only in Sydney and Melbourne.
The Foo Fighters are also rumoured to be in the mix for a 2014 Australian tour as Frontier Touring looks to expand on an already solid lineup for the coming year. They secured Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Phoenix as headliners for summer’s Future Music Festival as well as the in very high demand Bruce Springsteen tour.
