Black Sabbath are keeping their old engine running with the unveiling of a new video for their track “Loner,” which you can watch below. Because who doesn’t want to see the Prince of F*cking Darkness riding a stationary bike backstage?
The track is featured on the band’s most recent album 13, their first studio album since 1978’s Never Say Die!. With a new drummer (Rage Against The Machine’s Brad Wilk) and a world of ProTools tricks keeping them from sounding as if the three remaining original members don’t have nearly 200 years of life between them.
I know, it’s sacrilege to point out the screamingly obvious fact that these guys are older than a good percentage of our grandparents. These men are living legends, revered by tens of millions of fans worldwide, and have earned the right to a third-act victory lap. In live performance it’s difficult to keep up the illusion of youth, however, and while it’s great to still see the legendary metal pioneers putting in effort, the fangs have long since been rounded off.
The video is more of a promotion for the forthcoming Black Sabbath: Live…Gathered in Their Masses DVD, featuring footage of the band’s “reunion” tour in Australia, filmed in April and May of last year. The DVD Black Sabbath: Live…Gathered in Their Masses will be released on November 25.
