Already decided on a next-gen console? Today’s breaking news may reinforce your decision or change your mind.
Infinity Ward Executive Producer Mark Rubin just posted the following on Twitter:
Hey, been on the road last couple weeks so haven’t had a chance to update, but wanted to confirm that for Xbox One we’re 1080p upscaled from 720p. And, we’re native 1080p on PS4. We optimized each console to hit 60 FPS and the game looks great on both. Still on the road, but glad to see the great reception to Extinction. Can’t wait for next week’s launch.
Spec comparisons between the Xbox One and PS4 have shown a significant disadvantage for the former, and that’s already making itself clear with the launch lineup. Battlefield 4 will also run at a higher resolution on PS4.
Microsoft states that it will use cloud processing to make up for the difference, but none of that is being put on display with its launch library.
The Xbox 360’s advantage with most multiplatform titles proved instrumental in its success in North America. Everything appears to indicate that the tables will turn next-gen with the PS4 having superior RAM and graphics processing potential.
The killer point is that the Xbox One is $100 more than the PS4 thanks to the mandatory inclusion of a Kinect camera. For gamers looking to get the most bang for the buck it’s difficult to recommend an Xbox One when they get less power for more money.
Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean the PS4 has significantly better visuals than the Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Ghosts version, but it’s very likely. We’ll know soon enough since both consoles will declare war in November.
