Microsoft Offers Free AAA Title to Customers with Faulty Xbox One Disc Drive

Since its launch last Friday there have been reports of Xbox One consoles arriving with disc drive issues. While we’ve posted a do-it-yourself fix for the issue, a replacement is a much better idea. Microsoft is going one step further by offering a free game for those affected.

A free game is being offered to those who report that they’ve received a faulty Xbox One console. The game choices are Forza Motorsport 5, Dead Rising 3, Ryse: Son of Rome, and Zoo Tycoon, some of the console’s best games.

Microsoft said the following after announcing the initiative:

While a replacement console is on its way, we want to ensure our advance exchange customers can stay in the game. We will provide each of them with a free digital download of one of the launch titles published by Microsoft Studios.

Although some consumers are reporting that it takes hours to get a hold of Microsoft Support, the experience has been very positive. The turnaround for a replacement is less than a week. In the meantime, they can install the digital copy of one of the above offered games for free.

Sony has been dealing with hardware issues of its own with the PS4, but hasn’t offered a free game, yet. Maybe this will prompt it to give out free copies of Killzone: Shadow Fall. That would only be fair.
