The PS4 had a record-breaking launch in North America, and now is making record waves in the United Kingdom.
Sony has confirmed that 250,000 PS4s were sold in the UK over the weekend. In contrast, the Xbox One has pushed 170,000 in the territory since its debut on November 22nd, and the poor Wii U has 150,000 units sold over the past year.
Sony’s success with the PS4 so far can be attributed to its focus on being developer-oriented, something it has made clear with marketing material. The PS4 was designed from the ground up to be a console that developers can work on without headaches. In-turn, over 100 games have already been confirmed for the console.
As noted in our review, the PS4’s biggest challenge will be continuing sales beyond the initial holiday rush when most of its attractive titles are months away. It’s been the hottest new tech of the season, but initial sales are only a small fraction of the total picture. Will the interest continue through the beginning of 2014? We’ll find out soon enough.
