We’ve seen rock & hip hop stars lend their talents to disaster relief benefit concerts, bringing in millions for people in need. We’ve helped an avalanche of bands funding their new album, video and tour on the backs of their fans through Kinstarter. But very few seem to be rising to Eminem’s call to aid a badly needed charity and foster program in one of America’s most downtrodden metropolises, Detroit.
Until Tuesday night, Em has pledged to match all charity donations up to $100,000 for the Wolverine Human Services, based in the rapper’s home state of Michigan. The organization strives to help “adolescents suffering from the social injustices of abuse and neglect and those involved in delinquent activities,” the website reads. “Our mission is to offer the most appropriate settings and most effective services to children, their families and their communities.”
The only problem? Nobody seems to care. Despite ofering fans a chance to win one of nine autographed prizes from Eminem, the Wolverine donation page has raised just under $8,000 by publish time.
“Supporting us means that you’ll be making a difference in the lives of Michigan’s children, their families, and the great city of Detroit,” urges CrowdRise.com, a site promoting the partnership. In the video below, employees explain their mission to give hope and resources to children being raised in an environment that’s been economically ravaged, with far-reaching impacts.
The deadline to make a donation and have it matched by Eminem is 11:59 p.m. Tuesday. Make a donation. Directly help American kids in need. Vote for change with the only real vote you’re ever going to have: your money.
