Although next-gen is finally here, we haven’t seen much in the way of what makes 2013 hardware a huge leap. Part of that is due to multiplatform developers not investing enough time in their next-gen ports. That won’t be a problem for long, though, or at least not in the case of Assassin’s Creed.
Speaking to Examiner, Ubisoft’s Momchil Valentinov hinted at there being a high possibility of two variations of Assassin’s Creed for 2014’s release. More specifically, there may be a game tailored to take advantage of the PS4 and Xbox One’s powerful specs, and another version for last-generation platforms.
A faster CPU and better GPU doesn’t only mean prettier visuals. More processing power can translate into more realistic A.I. and more units on-screen at any given time. The two versions could be radically different in their delivery.
Our experience with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag on PS4 and Xbox One was positive, but not as striking as we hoped. The jump in weather effects was the highlight of the experience. Everything else wasn’t very dissimilar to what we’ve been seeing for a few years now.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was also a huge highlight for the series. Ubisoft is at the top of its game right now, and if it can work out how to translate horsepower into the gaming experience, 2014’s Assassin’s Creed could be a huge deal.
