VIDEO: Watch Nirvana’s Final L.A. Show Before Cobain’s Death

Nirvana fans are rejoicing and celebrating a recent find by Dave Markey, a Southern California-based filmmaker known for his 1993 documentary 1991: The Year Punk Broke.

Markey uploaded a 15-minute video clip of Nirvana’s performance at the Los Angeles Forum in 1993, their last ever in L.A. before frontman Kurt Cobain took his own life in April 1994.

Below is Markey’s description of the video, followed by the clip: “20 years ago tonight (December 30, 1993) I stood on Kurt’s side of the stage at my hometown’s Los Angeles Forum and captured the last set I would see of this band. A band that I had worked with, toured with; people that I would call my friends. A band that both the world and myself really loved (can’t really say this has happened since.) Within just a few short months it would sadly all be over. Sharing a few songs here; a couple covers (Vaselines’ “Jesus” & Bowie’s “Man Who Sold The World”) and All Apologies. I’m glad to have documented this show, as well as their pre-fame fun in 1991.”

For any kid who grew up in the era of grunge, hearing those first accordion chords after Cobain dedicates “Jesus Don’t Want Me For a Sunbeam” to River Phoenix, who died only a few miles away two months prior, is enough to bring out the goosebumps. Check it out below.
