While checking out the Steam Holiday Sale over the last couple weeks you might have noticed that DayZ has maintained the top seller spot since its release. Unsurprisingly, it’s sold a staggering number of units.
DayZ is confirmed to have sold over 800,000 units within three weeks, accumulating a total of 12 million dollars in revenue.
One of Bohemia Interactive’s devs posted the following comment on Reddit following the news:
We (bohemia and I) had very ambitious plans for 2014 already, however this amount of sales was completely unexpected. Honestly, 250k within a quarter was what I would have considered a success. So to move nearly 800,000 in under a month is crazy.
We’ll be finalizing our roadmap in mid January, but it is safe to say that this kind of result will be having a very positive effect on that roadmap.
The original DayZ was a mod for Arma 2 that was able to earn the attention of hundreds of thousands of gamers. It accounted for a generous amount of Arma 2‘s total sales. Bohemia Interactive was so impressed that it immediately began working on a standalone title of the same nature.
DayZ is considered to be in late Alpha right now. Major patches are planned that will greatly improve the game. Look out for news on what’s to come.
