On the heels of their Coachella 2014 headlining announcement, OutKast have been tapped to headline Governors Ball 2014 this spring. The New York fest, which expanded to 3 days last year and will run from June 6th to June 8th at Randall’s Island Park, confirmed that OutKast will make their first New York appearance in over a decade at the event.
Several more of the lineup’s 80+ artists will be announced on the festival’s various social media outlets over the next several days. The full lineup and on-sale is expected to arrive next week.
Fans have been clamoring for a reunion between Big Boi and Andre 3000, which would usher in a new era for Outkast. We’ve heard snippets of hopeful news and rumors over the years, but nothing has come to fruition.
It had seemed for quite a while as if the artistic direction between Bi Boi and Andre had evolved to a point of incongruence. With the legacy of Outkast weighing heavily on each of their solo endeavors over the years, fans never gave up the spark of hope that they’d catch the reunion fever that’s been making the rounds these past few years.
Last year’s Governors Ball featured Guns N’ Roses, Japandroids and Kanye West.
