Big Day Out replacement acts The Hives and Deftones are among two of the bands putting on Australian sideshows to coincide with their festival tour this month.
Both bands were added to the Pearl Jam (exclusive) and Arcade Fire led Big Day Out 2014 after ‘third headliner’ Blur mysteriously pulled out in November.
The Hives- one of the world’s top live acts- have been pretty regular guests Down Under in recent times and will put on an extra show for fans not attending BDO. You can catch them on January 21 at Russell (formerly Billboard) in Melbourne.
Deftones toured Oz last March, but can only been seen this time around at UNSW Roadhouse in Sydney on January 28.
Also part of the announcement are the Dave Grohl-produced Ghost, playing at The Hi Fi in Melbourne on Wednesday, January 22 and The Hi Fi in Sydney on Tuesday, January 28.
Another huge Australian summer festival not too far off on the horizon has been forced to deal with a late withdrawal.
Sevendust were part of the big Soundwave second lineup announcement, but withdrew from the festival on Friday citing reasons ‘beyond (the band’s) control’.
The five-piece metal group were last in Australia as part of Soundwave in 2011 and said via social media that they “hope to find a way in the near future to make the trip”.
Outspoken BDO and Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah took to Twitter to voice his opinion, tweeting “Sevendust have pulled out of Soundwave. Pissweak.”
