Oh c’mon! Denver & Seattle? I had to make one good weed joke!

While most jams about sports failure are riddled with the perils of failing your team, pop-country crooner James Otto took a bit of a different turn. Sure the guy in this story dropped the game-winning pass, and everybody hated him, and his girl left him, and his town disowned him, and he was forced to move to another state to avoid the shame. Still, when he got out there he met an awesome girl and had a great kid. He laments in “The Ball”, how he never would have had that chance if he’d made the winning catch.

Sure, the irony of a hardcore band writing a song about sports threatens to fold reality in on itself, but yet it has still come to pass. Straight Edge hardcore band Ten Yard Fight, dropped this golden nugget of sports love on their album Hardcore Pride. Interestingly, this connection works. Straight Edge kids started out as the counterculture to the drunken punk ideal, but over time have devolved into the jocks of the hardcore scene.

The year was 1985, and the Chicago Bears could to no wrong. Seriously. Even something like The Super Bowl Shuffle was met with rapid consumption by radio listeners, and seen as a point of pride by the windy city. I’m not really sure why they equipped the team with instrument they couldn’t play. I suppose it added to the “realism” of the video. If the rhymes don’t get you, check out some of the dancing. Quality stuff. Super Bowl legends.
