WTF?! Julian Casablancas’ New Single ‘Human Sadness’ Sounds Like Chipmunks on Helium

It’s been a very long time coming, and now that it’s here, we’re wondering if this is just a very early April Fools joke. Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas has revealed “Human Sorrow,” the first song from his upcoming score to the upcoming indie film She’s Lost Control, and it’s flat-out ridiculous.

The singer worked with his friend, composer and executive producer Simon Taufique on the project, which will debut at SXSW this year. Brook Bloom (Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Alpha House) and Marc Menchaca (Homeland, Generation Kill) star in a story about pushing the limits of sex therapy.

While the track offers a delicate, pretty instrumental melody, Casablancas’ vocals are reminiscent of a chipmunk doing an impression of a balloon deflating in the next room, or doing heroin in a supply closet at Disneyland. To some, that apparently warrants Gorillaz comparisons. To us, it’s a reminder not to come anywhere near this project with actual money.
