Chet Faker has finally found an album he felt was worth publishing.
After recording and dismissing his previous two attempts at finishing a debut LP, the Melbourne songwriter has finally come through with the first single from the upcoming Built On Glass album.
Chet Faker rose to prominence last year when he featured on a three-track EP with Flume, but while Australia’s fast-rising DJ/producer doesn’t make an appearance on Built On Glass, the first single ‘Talk Is Cheap’ offers a first glance and what promises to be an exciting rookie release.
Faker told FasterLouder last week that the album took so long to complete because he wasn’t able to complete recordings he was 100% happy with.
“Maybe I’ve overcooked it and thought about it too much,” Murphy revealed. “I thought it was finished and then I deleted everything and started again. I did that twice. I wrote like three albums for one album.”
The minimalist percussion and subdued sax on ‘Talk Is Cheap’ reflects the making of Built On Glass.
“Honesty is a big part of the record. I recorded with easily affordable equipment, the budget was tiny,” Faker said of the cooling room he rented and converted in a Melbourne meat market.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever worked on a full length and I felt like hi-fidelity wasn’t something to strive for working in a room on my own.”
The Chet Faker Built On Glass album is due April 11
