When SNL Weekend Update anchor Seth Meyers takes over Jimmy Fallon’s “Late Night” show next week, he’ll have quite a bit of star power to get things off to a good start.
While fellow SNL alum Fred Armisen will serve as bandleader (which is supremely awesome in its own right), Meyers will also enjoy a first-week boost from Kanye West. The rapper has been revealed as Tuesday’s (Feb 25th) guest, with John Mayer, Brad Paisley and A Great Big World also making appearances during the first week.
The only catch? Kanye may not actually perform. And while that may seem a bit silly at first, it’s important to remember that West’s most entertaining moments often come during his interviews. The man is batshit-crazy in love with his own ego, and that makes for some compelling viewing to a culture obsessed with vapid assholes.
Honestly though, the most captivating names on Meyers’ first-week lineup aren’t musical at all, but rather an appearance by the adorable bromance duo of Sir Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, who appear together on Friday.
Late Night With Seth Meyers will premiere on Feb. 24 at 12:35am. Below is a complete list of guests who will appear in week one:
Monday, Feb. 24: Amy Poehler, Joe Biden and musical guest A Great Big World.
Tuesday, Feb. 25: Kanye West and author Robyn Doolittle (The Rob Ford Story).
Wednesday, Feb. 26: Kelly Ripa, Brad Paisley and musical guest Brad Paisley.
Thursday, Feb. 27: Lena Dunham, Anthony Mackie and musical guest John Mayer Trio.
Friday, Feb. 28: Ian McKellen & Patrick Stewart, Sophia Bush and comedian Michael Che.
Fallon begins his new job as host of The Tonight Show on Feb. 17. We will be watching with excitement, if only for the fact that Jay Leno’s chin will no longer be a staple of late-night television. We’re free! We’re finally free!!
