March 2014 Video Game Release Calendar
March 4th - The Walking Dead: S2 E2 & South Park: The Stick of Truth
March will kick off with a bang when The Walking Dead: Season 2 Episode 2 and South Park: The Stick of Truth release side-by-side. Sure, these two games aren't on next-gen platforms, but they don't need to be.
The Walking Dead: Season Two had a great introduction. Episode Two will continue the narrative. Called "A House Divided", you'll be in charge of protecting your group from a very dangerous threat while in the woods.
South Park: The Stick of Truth is looking like the first true video game for one of America's most popular animated series. Surprisingly, it's an RPG with lots of strategy incorporated into its combat. Most importantly, it looks really, really good.
March 11th - Titanfall and Dark Souls 2
You could argue that March 11th is the biggest day of the year for video games. Titanfall is the most hotly anticipated title of 2014, and its beta starstruck us . It's a first-person shooter that hopes to reinvigorate the genre with new mechanics and gameplay that's been polished to a shine—its developer is the same that made the original Call of Duty games. We get the feeling it'll succeed in doing so.
Dark Souls 2 arrives on the same day. As with the past two Souls releases, there's a lot of difficulty that stands between you and completing the game, but if the past games are any indication it'll be well worth the effort. Hours upon hours of gameplay are riddled with tough foes and all the qualities you come to expect from a truly addictive RPG.
March 14th - Yoshi's New Island
The 3DS has been on a hot streak for over a year. Yoshi is ready to lend a hand.
Yoshi's New Island is one of the biggest titles coming to the 3DS in 2014, and that's saying a lot. Sadly, we haven't seen Yoshi in a while. He has some cool new abilities to show us , and being able to see the cute little green dinosaur in stereoscopic 3D will be a nice added bonus.
March 18th - Ninja Gaiden Z, MGSV: Ground Zeroes & FFX HD Remaster
Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z is ready to kick some butt on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Those who enjoy the challenging hack-and-slash of Ninja Gaiden will be treated to another game directed by the famous Keiji Inafune.
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes might not be a full release (it's priced at $29.99), but it's Metal Gear . It's also another game featuring Big Boss, and one that'll be the first in the series to have open-world gameplay. Color us excited.
It can be argued that Final Fantasy X was the last great Final Fantasy release. Square Enix doesn't seem to be able to match it, so why not just play it again with all the benefits of more powerful hardware? It's been remastered to spice up the visual presentation. Oh, and Final Fantasy X-2 will be thrown in for good measure.
March 21st - inFamous: Second Son
Let's be real, Killzone: Shadow Fall wasn't enough to give the PS4 its first system seller. However, inFamous: Second Son might.
Sucker Punch Productions is going big with inFamous: Second Son . It's set in Seattle, a first for the series, and the level of detail is remarkable. The most important thing is that it'll be the first true open-world experience of next-gen. It'll demonstrate exactly why the PS4 is worth upgrading to, provided it's as technically sound as we hope it will be.
March 25th - Diablo III: Reaper of Souls
Blizzard Entertainment released the pre-patch for Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls this week, and the feedback has been enormously positive. It has spent countless hours trying to make the changes and adjustments Diablo 3 has desperately needed to be a proper installment for the series.
Arriving on March 25th, Reaper of Souls means business. It includes a laundy list of changes, from adding a new class, to structuring the game so you want to explore. Made better, loot will be more substantial and the Auction House has been demolished. If you skipped Diablo 3 because it didn't look like the Diablo you've come to love, then you need to check this out.
March 31st - Shovel Knight
Shovel Knight might look like a dated game, but it's anything but. Influenced by some of the most memorable classics in gaming (i.e. Megaman , Castlevania , and Super Mario Bros. ) it aims to teleport you back to when games were simple yet addictive.
We awarded it Top 5 Game of Show at New York Comic Con 2013 , so it's certainly nothing you want to skip just because it looks old.
