HBO Unveils ‘Catch The Throne’ Mixtape Inspired By ‘Game of Thrones’

Winter is coming and the fourth season of “Game of Thrones” is only a few weeks away. However, HBO is making an interesting stop along the way.

HBO has announced that “Catch The Throne,” a new “Game of Thrones” inspired mixtape will hit this Friday. “Catch The Throne” features Big Boi, Common, Daddy Yankee, Wale, Bodega Bamz, Dee Goodz, Dominik Omega, Kilo Kish, Magazeen, and Snow Tha Product performing original songs based upon George R.R. Martin’s “Game of Thrones,” with snippets of dialogue from the show’s actors mixed into the beginning of each song.

Although “Game of Thrones” is already HBO’s most popular series, “Catch The Throne” seems to be an attempt to expand the show’s reach by attracting fans of hip-hop and Latin music.

Over at the Wall Street Journal, Lonnie Rashid Lynn Jr. aka Common was quoted as saying that “Twenty years ago, Wu-Tang was breaking ground. Nowadays, people are open to anything. There are no limitations in hip-hop culture.”

“Catch The Throne” will be released online for free this Friday. “Game of Thrones” Season 4 will premiere on Sunday, April 6.
