The Music portion of SXSW 2014 is in its final stride, and in addition to an incredible array of parties and musical mayhem we’ve got a beautiful bounty of memories and performance clips to bring you from CraveOnline’s hugely successful Music Showcase on Wednesday night. We’ve already offered up a taste of sex-pop with Semi Precious Weapons’ headlining performance of “Cherries on Ice,” featuring an appearance by Lady Gaga, and today we’re bringing you the next installment from the best night of music Crave could’ve hoped for.
The stage was graced by a barn-burning set of soulful rock from The Silent Comedy, San Diego’s bluegrass-infused, gospel-inspired cabaret rockers and Crave’s Band of The Month in January. With an intensity rivaling a Southern-Baptist spiritual revival, the band straddled a wide range of style and sound with a set heavy on new material from the band’s upcoming new album, which they’ve been finishing work on here in Austin.
The single “God Neon,” off the band’s Friends Divide EP, centers on the beast of civilization, and how the modern city has become a wild, sometimes malevolent, force that can eat up its residents if they aren’t careful. The performance at Crave’s music showcase isn’t one we’ll be forgetting anytime soon – see below for all the rockin’ reasons why.
