K’naan Gets Political And Performs At NDP Rally

The Ontario election is looming and the candidates are looking anywhere and everywhere for some back-up, including the NDP, who asked rapper K’naan to perform at their rally and concert in Toronto last night.

The Canadian Press reported that the long-running scandal over the cancelation of two Toronto-area gas plants in 2011 is dominating the final weekend of the election campaign so far.

Three-time Juno Award winner K’naan, who was born in Somalia but was raised in Toronto, is known for his various philanthropic efforts (apart from being in the music scene) and released his sixth studio album, Country, God or the Girl, in 2012. His popular single “Wavin’ Flag” became a household tune after Coca-Cola used it for their 2010 FIFA World Cup song.

Where were the other Ontario candidates? According to the CP, NDP Leader Andrea Horwath was attending Toronto’s annual Portugal Day on Sunday, Liberal Leader Kathleen Wynne was campaigning in Mississauga and the Kitchener-Waterloo area, and Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak had events in St. Catharines and Fort Erie.
