Boxing: Going the Distance with Sergey Kovalev

CRAVE: What is your favorite thing to do outside of boxing? Any Hobbies?

(SK) Champ: I like spending time with my friends and family. Also driving my car. BMW (5) series. I like driving long distances.

CRAVE: When did you start boxing?

(SK) Champ: I started when i was 11 years old.

CRAVE: Who introduced you to the sport?

(SK) Champ: MYSELF! I took myself to the boxing gym down the street and loved it.

CRAVE: How many Amateur fights did you have?

(SK) Champ: I had 215 fights and 193 wins.

CRAVE: What is the absolute toughest fight you’ve had so far amateur or pro?

(SK) Champ: In the amateurs i had my toughest fights. But preparation for championship fight is much tougher.

CRAVE: What are your goals in boxing from now through 2015 and how many times do you plan on fighting?

(SK) Champ: My goal is to get all the titles in my division and be an example for a lot of kids that go to the boxing gyms. I’m ready to fight every two or three months. But everything goes through my promoter and HBO. I would fight five times a year if they let me.

CRAVE: Currently The Ring Magazine has you ranked #2 behind Bernard Hopkins and both you and Hopkins have stated that you’d like to challenge Adonis Stevenson (Stevenson has the WBC title and Kovalev has the WBO title and Hopkins has the WBA title). Is it possible that you could fight Hopkins in the near future and winner fights Stevenson?

(SK) Champ: Stevenson right now is avoiding me 100%. I’m ready to fight all the champions in my division. Everyone knows that’s my goal. Right now my focus is on my current opponent Blake Caparello. I don’t care #3, #2 last year i was supposed to fight Stevenson.

CRAVE: I see you have (one of the best) John David Jackson in your corner. How did you two meet?

(SK) Champ: My manager found JDJ because my manager is already good friends with Don Turner. He’s a great coach and he met us through Don.

CRAVE: How do you like living in FT Lauderdale so far?

(SK) Champ: I like Ft Lauderdale but most time Lauderdale better in Winter. Summer is very humid and hot. But maybe in future i move to where it’s not so humid.

CRAVE: Lastly, what can we expect to see from you on Saturday night?

(SK) Champ: Watch HBO and you will see a BIG WIN for me. I’m going to win BIG this fight. Watch and see
