Having established himself among acts including Queens Of The Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, Eagles Of Death Metal, Brody Dalle, Chris Cornell, Mark Lanegan and more, the inimitable Alain Johannes is a nucleus of songwriting and production excellence. A cofounder of Eleven with his late wife Natasha Shneider and former Pearl Jam/RHCP drummer Jack Irons, Alain has concreted his artistic legacy as both a solo artist and a contributor to an avalanche of such hugely respected music projects featuring his soulful stringwork and custom production technique.
Now the man brings his haunting warmth and classical flare to a new album, Fragments & Wholes, Vol. 1, for which he’s launched a PledgeMusic campaign. To celebrate the upcoming release, Crave is proud to exclusively premiere a collaborative performance of “Why,” with the legendary Jack Irons on drums:
Alain checks in with details on his Pledge Music campaign below:
Hello and thanks for checking out my Pledge Music page! I’m really excited about being able to share my new album (as well as posters, t-shirts, etc!) with you here.
The album is called “Fragments and Wholes, Vol. 1” and it will be ready for release on November 11. That’s 11/11/2014, for those of you who know my musical history, the numbers add up to eleven of course.
On this new album, I expand on the Cigarbox guitar driven sound of Spark into a wider sonic palate including electric guitars, bass, drums, horns etc. The songs started as improvised sketches I posted on Instagram. For 12 days I chose one song each morning, finished writing it then recorded and mixed it. Check out the audio sampler on this page.
If you pre-order the album, you’ll get it digitally on 11/11, and you’ll get any physical items you want shortly after that. In addition, I’ll be sending you exclusive updates from my home/studio 11AD, as well as updates from the road as I open up for Queens of the Stone Age in South America in late September!
So please pledge below. I look forward to hearing from you!
Love + music,
Alain
