Frank Lampard Could Stay at Manchester City

Frank Lampard could extend his stay at Manchester City, after boss Manuel Pellegrini praised the midfielder’s performance at the club.

Lampard scored a brace in Man City’s 7-0 victory against Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup, following his bittersweet goal against former club Chelsea. Currently on loan to the Manchester club from New York City FC, the former England captain may have his stay lengthened, after Pellegrini dropped a hint that he was at least considering the possibility of a contract extension by speaking of his importance at the club.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the manager said: “Frank is a very important player for every team. He’s very happy here.

“He’s doing his job, he’s scoring. I think that he’s an important player for us. We’ll see what happens in the future but the important thing now is to think about what we must do against Hull on Saturday.”

Pellegrini will hope that his squad’s high-scoring performance against Sheffield will see them return to prolific form in front of goal. “I’m happy because we’ve returned to being a scoring team”, the manager said. “Maybe in the last two games here at home we didn’t do it. For the team, it’s very important.”
