Part of the fun of football season is not only about being lazy on your couch each Sunday while cheering your favorite group of men to pile on another group of dudes, but the incredibly delicious unhealthy gluttony that accompanies it.
Between each quarter, timeout or butt fumble, you see commercial after commercial tempting you to pick up your favorite salty dish — most of the time it’s pizza. So what’s actually worth your hard earned money? I’m on a mission to find out.
I’m starting out my Football Food Review with the Little Caesars soft pretzel crust pizza.
Sounds and looks legit, right?
Especially after watching this impressive ad:
So what did I get? Not pepperoni, for one. I know, I’m a freak of nature; one of the few on the planet who doesn’t like processed meat. Therefore, I went for the green pepper and mushroom combo.
But what did it look like? Did it actually look like what we see on television?
Let’s take a look at what I got vs. the advertisement picture.
Does the pizza still look delicious? Of course it does. However, it certainly doesn’t look like the picture, mostly because the pretzel crust didn’t rise as much as advertised.
Now for the taste…
It was good, but it immediately made you think of ballpark food you had as a kid on a hot, summer day — or the nachos you would get at the fair. It’s incredibly weird having nacho cheese as a substitute for marinara on a pizza.
Here’s a better look:
The pretzel crust — again, good — but it didn’t have that softness to it, the kind that you would expect from a “soft pretzel crust” pizza. This possibly because it didn’t rise?
The cheese was solid. The vegetables tasted just fine — fresh. My only visual knock was the crust. Props to the guys at the establishment who were very friendly and tossed in some breadsticks on the house.
Overall, this is a solid pizza if you’re a teenager that still has that enzyme for processing fast food. If you’re over the age of 22, take a few Tums immediately after consumption.
