The Call of Duty series is known for its over-the-top single-player campaigns, which are typically filled with so much explosive action that even Michael Bay would think that it was a bit much. However, the moment that has owners of the new Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare rolling their eyes into the backs of their heads is a much more somber scene than the likes of Black Ops 2‘s rocket-launching on horseback – it’s a quick-time event funeral.
Yes, you read that correctly; a quick-time event funeral.

The QTE takes place (oh yeah, there are some spoilers here if you hadn’t already guessed) during the funeral of protagonist Jack Mitchell’s best friend, who is also the son of Kevin Spacey’s character in the game. After speeches have been made and the guests stand up to make their exit, you are met with an onscreen prompt to “Hold X to Pay Respects.” You can then either choose to hold X, put your hand on your friend’s coffin and silently grieve, or simply wait around for a while. As far as quick-time events go, this is probably the most shoehorned example of one I’ve ever seen.

Inevitably, people have been falling over one another to poke fun at the scene, with many feeling that this might mark the moment that the series has become a parody of itself. While I highly doubt that Call of Duty has gone all meta, it’s still likely the most unintentionally funny thing I’ve seen in a game all year.
Ah, Call of Duty. Never change.
