In between flake-by-flake coverage of the snowstorm that kept Interpol stranded for 50 hours and Dave Grohl’s third round of toilet paper while wiping his ass today, we’re engaging in the latest obligatory hand-wringing and contrived clickbaiting sensationalist headline. A previously unreleased video called “Sturmgruppe 2013” has surfaced featuring Marilyn Manson, as well as overblown hypechild Lana Del Rey getting raped by director Eli Roth.
During the video, the eyebrow-less guy who rapes Juice in prison on “Sons of Anarchy” looks menacing and creepy as a bloody chick has her head shoved underwater and other girls in lingerie smash up a room. Then we see Roth forcing himself on a writhing and weeping Lana in slow motion, before we’re shown a gimped-out Manson taking GTA shots at bystanders from atop a building, a praying mantis feasting on a lady bug and well-endowed women showing their goods. Because art.
Is this perpetuation of “rape culture”? Taboo sensationalism for shock value? A stupidly cheap play at controversy? All of the above? Who cares? It’s the click-value item of the day, intentionally fed through the guise of being “leaked” for our hypocritically enraged pleasure.
Revel in the distraction. Then we can forget that we just watched a brutal rape for entertainment and go back to being outraged by a video of a girl getting compliments for ten hours. Is pop culture the only kind of culture we’re ever going to have?
