In an interview with IGN, Bungie reiterated that they have a long-term plan for Destiny, and through further clarification with the publication, stated that they do indeed wish to have players be able to carry over their progress into the eventual sequel, whenever that may be.
Specifically, Bungie says they have at least a ten-year plan for the expansion and evolution of the franchise. Whether this means a boat load of new DLC, or a sequel sooner rather than later, we’re not sure. All we know at this point is that Destiny looks to be a long-term investment, and Bungie is ready for the long haul; they hope you are too, and they are ready and willing to give their fan base what it wants.
