Sia Has Finished Her New Album ‘This Is Acting’

Sia has finished writing and recording the follow-up to 2014’s uber-successful 1000 Forms Of Fear. She’s decided to call the new record This Is Acting, and for good reason.

In an interview with NME, the Adelaide singer-songwriter says her new material was actually written with other singers in mind. Sia has written songs for the likes of Eminem, Beyoncé and Rihanna in the past, but the experience of making 1000 Forms Of Fear seems to have given her a new perspective, which has affected her new album’s sound and style.

“I’m super productive. I have a full album ready to go and it’s much more pop,” she says. “I’m calling it ‘This Is Acting’ because they are songs I was writing for other people, so I didn’t go in thinking, ‘this is something I would say’. It’s more like play-acting. It’s fun.”

Interestingly, Sia also says one of the key reasons she released 1000 Forms Of Fear was to get out of a record deal.

“Basically, I put this out to get out of my publishing deal,” Sia says. “I was planning to be a pop song writer for other artists. But my publishing deal was as an artist so I had to put one more album out. I didn’t want to get famous so I kept all the songs I wanted and had a lot of fun making it.”

The latest piece of new material to come from Sia arrived earlier this month, in the form of a collaboration with Kanye West on his new song Wolves, which also features rapper Vic Mensa. The trio performed “Wolves” as part of Saturday Night Live‘s 40th anniversary show earlier this week.
