If you head on over to the official Microsoft Store, you’ll see something that many of us thought would never happen: 12-months of Xbox Live is available for $39.99.
Xbox Live was originally $49.99, and a few years back saw a price increase for $59.99. Truthfully, it’s an expensive service, especially if you own a PlayStation console and are already paying for the similarly costly PlayStation Plus.
Along with other strategic decisions Microsoft has made during the past year, this price drop seems to not only be temporary, but in the best interest of consumers. Truth is, there has been a significant migration of gamers from Xbox 360 to PS4, and that’s a fact that Microsoft can’t be too happy about. So, it’s been on a mission to build a pro-gamer reputation, and an Xbox Live price reduction is one way to achieve that.

To be clear, there has been no confirmation that the MSRP of Xbox Live has been permanently dropped by $20. If it is only for a few days, it might not be such a bad idea for Microsoft to at least consider making it permanent.
Either way, if you own an Xbox 360 or Xbox One you should take advantage of this deal while it’s around. On any given day it isn’t easy to find a deal on Xbox Live less than $49.99, let alone $39.99.
