Aside from missing your draft entirely, nothing can be more frustrating than drafting a player you didn’t know was on the disabled list. So before you hit your draft board over the next week, be sure to check out this injury list first for a quick rundown on who you may not want on your team, or at the very least, should be knocking down your draft board.
In order of ADP (or close to it), here are players who are substantially injured:
Anthony Rendon, Washington (2B, 3B) – Left knee MCL. Will not be ready for start of season.
Chris Sale, Chicago White Sox (SP) – Avulsion fracture of right foot. Should only miss a couple starts. Draft with confidence.
Yu Darvish, Texas (SP) – Tommy John Surgery. Will miss all of 2015.
Alex Cobb, Tampa (SP) – Tendinitis. Will start season on DL. No timetable.
Cliff Lee, Philadelphia (SP) – Has flexor tendon tear. Will try to pitch this season. Very dangerous draft pick.
Garrett Richards, LA Angels (SP) – Patellar tendon surgery. Will return by mid to late April.
Hunter Pence, San Francisco (OF) – Fractured left forearm. Out until about mid-April.
Hyun-jin Ryu, LA Dodgers (SP) – Left shoulder. Still waiting, running tests. Will start season on DL.
Drew Smyly, Tampa (SP) – Tendinitis. Will start season on DL. Should return mid to late April.
Homer Bailey, Cincinnati (SP) – Recovering from forearm surgery. Could return by mid April.
Sean Doolittle, Oakland (RP) – Left rotator cuff tear. Possibly out until May.
Marcus Stroman , Toronto (SP) – Tommy John Surgery – Will miss all of 2015
Denard Span, Washington (OF) – Core muscle surgery. Out until possibly May.
Matt Wieters, Baltimore (C) – Recovering from Tommy John surgery. Out until about mid April.
Jose Fernandez, Miami (SP) – Recovering from Tommy John surgery. Should return mid to late season.
Mike Minor, Atlanta (SP) – Left shoulder inflammation. Out likely until May.
Zack Wheeler, New York Mets (SP) – Tommy John surgery. Out for all of 2015.
Michael Saunders, Toronto (OF) – Left knee. Sleeper candidate won’t be ready opening day and could return in mid to late April.
Josh Hamilton, Anaheim (OF) – Recovering from shoulder surgery. May be suspended for drug abuse. No timetable.
Tim Collins, Kansas City (RP) – Tommy John surgery. Out for season.
Kris Medlen, Kansas City (SP) – Tommy John surgery. Could return mid-season.
Charlie Morton, Pittsburgh (SP) – Recovering from hip surgery. Could return mid April.
Jarrod Parker, Oakland (SP) – Recovering from Tommy John surgery. Could return by June.
Patrick Corbin, Arizona (SP) – Recovering from Tommy John surgery. Out until possibly June.
Matt Moore, Tampa (SP) – Tommy John surgery. Could return by June.
Corey Luebke, San Diego (SP) – Recovering from Tommy John surgery. Could return late in season.
Jurickson Profar, Texas (2B) – Shoulder surgery. Out for 2015.
Ivan Nova, New York Yankees (SP) – Recovering from Tommy John surgery. Could return by May.
