Ultra Music Festival Recap: Day 2 Brings Future of Sound To Miami

Despite the dreary weather that plagued Ultra’s first night of festivities, day two of the festival proved to be more than just a “bright and sunny day.” From the headlining mainstage performances to the eccentric live stage acts to the underground sounds of the Resistance stage, fans and djs alike were together as one under the clear blue sky on Saturday, filled with excitement and energy to seize the new day.

Early day performers included MK, Seth Troxler, John Digweed, and more at the Carl Cox & Friends tent, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Tommy Trash, and Galantis on the Ultra Japan Stage, as well has a hefty lineup of mainstage dazzlers including Vicetone, Ansolo, Blasterjaxx, and more.

These initial DJs set the tone for the entire day, bridging together the smooth and accessible sounds of their genre-styles with their illustrious discographies and fellow releases. The Resistance stage proved to be the most sought-after stage within only a few hours, and as the night progressed, the Desert Heart-esque stage design brought together a powerful range of new school parties to veteran ravers.

As the night progressed, artists began to come out of their “shells” to demonstrate their true talent. On the Radio Stage, Montreal-native Snails cemented his place in Miami’s bass scene with an unparalleled performance of trap, dubstep, drum & bass, and even his signature “vomit-step.” At the same time, South African sensation Die Antwoord provided their heavy-hitting beats and rawkus-y lyrics in an unrivaled demonstration of revolt and flair. To end the night, bass-dynamo Bassnectar delivered his signature assault of sounds and styles, showcasing how every genre had a place at the festival.

One of the most notable elements of Saturday’s grand celebration was the freedom found in all of Ultra’s attendees. It was amazing to see the motivation and energy from each fan, and the atmosphere proved to be suitable for every kind of festival-goer.
