Halo 5: Guardians Release Date Announced and New Live-Action Trailers Released

Halo 5: Guardians will be released on the Xbox One on October 27th, 2015, it has been revealed by developer 343 Industries.

Set to be one of the biggest video game releases of the year, 343 also unveiled two brand new live-action trailers to coincide with its latest announcement, showing the game’s two primary characters, Halo stalwart Master Chief and newbie Agent Locke, engaged in a face-off.

The first trailer depicts Agent Locke standing above a wounded Master Chief, gun poised and ready to take down the iconic Spartan soldier for reasons unknown.

The second trailer, which seemingly takes place in an alternate timeline, sees Chief as the man with the upper hand and ready to take down Locke.

Both trailers ask fans to “Hunt The Truth” (complete with obligatory hashtag), pointing to a Tumblr page that delves into the “story behind the Master Chief.” Thus far the Tumblr page consists of mini-podcasts set within the Halo universe, which feature interviews with characters within the game’s universe. According to the page it will be updated weekly, continuing its “investigation into the origins of modern-day superhero Master Chief.”

Halo 5 is certainly the biggest game of the year for Xbox One, though considering the problems 343 had with Halo: The Master Chief Collection, many are understandably skeptical of whether the developer will be able to live up to the hype and deliver an Xbox One Halo game without it launching with a myriad of issues, as was the case with their previous release. Still, it’s difficult to not get excited by a new Halo game, and while these live-action trailers don’t highlight any single-player gameplay, they’ve certainly piqued our interest in regards to the game’s story.
