Back in May 2014, reports emerged that Showtime and Microsoft were in potentially groundbreaking negotiations to co-produce a Halo TV series that would be shared by Showtime and Xbox Live, with Steven Spielberg attached as an executive producer. The actual project itself had been announced back in 2013, with an estimated launch in Fall 2015 alongside Halo 5.
While the future of Halo on TV has been in doubt ever since Microsoft gutted its Xbox Live programming division, Showtime President David Nevins offered a very brief update on the project at the Television Critics Association Press Tour. According to IGN, Nevins said “It’s still in development. Still in very active development.”
When asked if more details would be forthcoming, Levins reportedly laughed and replied “No time soon.”

In 2005, a Halo feature film was planned by 20th Century Fox and Universal Pictures with Neill Blomkamp as the director and Peter Jackson as an executive producer. However, the project suffered massive delays and the rights eventually reverted back to Microsoft. Thus far, the only official Halo projects in live-action have been Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, and Halo: Nightfall, both of which were produced on lower budgets than a standard feature film or television series.
