The perks of stardom know no bounds, apparently. When Apple unveiled the 18-karat gold Apple Watch Edition, trend-hoppers couldn’t wait to shell out for a token of tech elitism. But rapper Ludacris upped the ante on badass wrist accessories on Sunday night, when he appeared at the Teen Choice Awards flaunting a custom model with a diamond-encrusted display.
We endured a jealousy blizzard this Spring, when a number of stars appeared at events like the Coachella festival sporting new gold Apple Watch Edition pieces ahead of the official release. Luda wasn’t in the elite wrist-flare mix at the time, but his “personal jewelers” – Icebox in Atlanta, Georgia – took it upon themselves to create the world’s first diamond-encrusted Apple Watch.
Luda’s wrist pieces reportedly came in both 38mm and 42mm sizes, with prices ranging from $4,000 to $12,500, depending on the size and quantity of the diamonds. That actually sets the price considerably lower than Apple Watch Edition’s $10k-$17k price tag, likely due to Luda’s apparent use of stainless steel variant rather than gold.
