All Your Mum’s Favourite International Acts Are Playing This Year’s AFL Grand Final

Despite a call to make sure alternative Aussie acts got to play at this year’s AFL Grand Final, three big-name international artists have been booked to play at the MCG to people who are actually there to watch the match.

Your new X Factor Judge Chris Isaak, bona fide British popstar Ellie Goulding and your Mum’s teenage crush Bryan Adams have all been confirmed to take to the stage on the big day. Meanwhile, Isaak’s fellow X Factor panelist James Blunt will serenade those at the Brownlow Medal.

The mix of acts should provide plenty of entertainment for the whole family, with Isaak and Adams likely to satisfy the baby boomers while Goudling will get the kids moving. It’s the second year in a row that the organisers have booked international acts after Ed Sheeran and Tom Jones played last year.

In the previous two years before local artists, including The Temper Trap and Birds Of Tokyo, were booked to play after Meat Loaf’s infamous 2011 performance left a sour taste in the mouth of most. He recently said that the people at the AFL were “the cheapest people I’ve ever seen in my life,” after he asked for 100 motorcycles and was only given three for his performance.

Let’s hope that’s a lesson for the organisers to allow Goulding as many confetti canons as she likes and Issak all the hair gel in the world.

If none of these acts whet your apetite then you also have Kiss playing The AFL Footy Show’s grand final special to look forward to.
