Sam Smith Confirms ‘Spectre’ Bond Theme ‘Writing’s On The Wall’

Despite vehemently denying it just last week, Sam Smith has confirmed that he will perform the opening credits song to the next James Bond movie, Spectre. Titled “Writing’s on the Wall,” the song was co-written by Smith and his “Stay With Me” collaborator Jimmy Napes, with Disclosure also tweeting that they provided “additional production” on the track.

“This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible lineup of some of my biggest musical inspirations,” Smith tweeted Tuesday morning. “I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.”

Smith also posted a pre-order link to his Bond theme, available as a CD or vinyl single. Both formats are accompanied by an instrumental version of the track. “Writing’s on the Wall” is set to arrive on September 25th.

“Sam and Jimmy have written the most inspirational song for Spectre and with Sam’s extraordinary vocal performance, ‘Writing’s on the Wall’ will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time,” Spectre producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said in a statement.

Smith also tweeted a black-and-white photo of his hand donning a ring with the infamous SPECTRE emblem, a logo that dates back to 1962’s Dr. No.

Last week, the singer told BBC Radio 2’s Jo Whiley that he was “definitely not” working on the project. “That’s not me. That’s definitely not me,” he said. “I’ve still got loads to do, I’ve got an Australia tour, but I kind of finish in December which is great, it gives me a chance to be in London, be in my home and go out with my friends.”

Yeaaaah right.
