Nolan North’s Performance is Worse Than Peter Dinklage’s in Destiny: The Taken King

Footage of Nolan North’s voice over performance in the upcoming Destiny expansion The Taken King has been released, and it seems that the critically acclaimed voice actor may have put in a worse effort than the notoriously poor performance from Peter Dinklage in the vanilla game.

We all know how skilled of a voice actor Nolan North is, with his omnipresence in the video game world leading to him securing starring roles in major franchises from Assassin’s Creed to Uncharted. We also know that Peter Dinklage is a fine actor, and though his voice over experience is limited, we were expecting something more from him when we found out that he’d be providing the voice over for Destiny‘s robotic Ghost companion. This leads us to the conclusion that rather than it being Dinklage or North’s fault that their work on Destiny has been underwhelming, it’s likely due to the quality of the game’s script.

North will completely replace Dinklage in the role of Ghost when The Taken King is released next week, with him now providing the voice over work for the vanilla game and all of its expansions. His performance was highlighted in a comparison video posted by Polygon, and while Dinklage’s voice over sounded like the Game of Thrones actor wanted to be anywhere else other than Bungie’s recording booth, North sounds overly jubilant to have been there.

Check it out in the video below:

Ghost’s role was diminished in the Destiny expansions after the criticisms leveled at Dinklage’s performance, so maybe North won’t prove to be too distracting in The Taken King. While nothing in the video is as bad as the infamous “that wizard came from the moon” line, “careful, it’s power is… dark!” is still pretty awful. Hopefully The Taken King features some better dialogue for Ghost’s new voice actor to play with.
