Last season on NBC, the live-action TV adaptation of DC Comics’ Constantine failed to find a large audience and it came to an end mid-story. Just when fans discovered the identity of John Constantine’s true enemy, the show was over. And efforts to resurrect the series came up short.
Over on The CW’s Arrow, efforts to resurrect Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) worked… and that’s the problem! Sara was brought back to life via the Lazarus Pit, but her mind and soul don’t seem to have made the journey back with her body. That’s why Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) is calling in a big favor, and Matt Ryan is reprising his role as John Constantine in next week’s episode of Arrow!
Amell was a very public supporter of Constantine and he offered to make a guest appearance on that show as Oliver Queen if any network picked it up. Ryan is essentially returning the gesture, and according to Arrow c0-showrunner Marc Guggenheim, this is a special, “one time only deal.” Which means that Constantine fans shouldn’t expect John to stick around and recur on Arrow. This is it.
At the end of tonight’s episode of Arrow, The CW debuted the first trailer for “Haunted,” the next episode of the series which brings Constantine to Star City in an attempt to reunite Sara’s body with her soul. And as dryly noted by Constantine, if anything goes wrong, they will all be too dead to care!
While John Constantine isn’t likely to show up again, Lotz is slated to co-star in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow in early 2016.
The Arrow and Constantine crossover episode will air next Wednesday, November 4 on The CW!
