Ten years ago, Warner Bros. made a serious push to finally get Wonder Woman on the big screen. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel creator Joss Whedon was given the director’s chair and the writing duties. However, Wonder Woman stalled in development hell, and Whedon’s take on the character was shelved when he left the project. A few years later, Marvel Studios signed Whedon to write and direct The Avengers and its sequel. Meanwhile, DC is only now moving forward with a Wonder Woman movie for 2017.
There’s no way to tell if Whedon’s Wonder Woman movie would be received by the general public. But a comic book store in Manhattan Beach, CA is going to give fans a chance to see and hear Whedon’s script performed live. The Comic Bug has a copy of Whedon’s unproduced Wonder Woman script, and the store owners have called upon Jennifer Wenger to star as the title character in the script reading. Wenger is an actress and a well-known Wonder Woman cosplayer…and she will be performing in costume. Joining Wenger for the event are Curtis Fortier as Steve Trevor, with other performers to be named later.
