Even with the advent of Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, the late night talk shows on the major networks are still the prime destination for stars to plug their TV series. Case in point, former Parks and Recreation star Aziz Ansari recently went on CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to promote his new Netflix series, Master of None.
However, Ansari wasn’t content with simply hyping his show. While speaking with Colbert, Ansari openly mocked CBS’ relative lack of diversity…which Colbert was only too happy to spin into comedy gold. Colbert’s like a late night Rumpelstiltskin in that way.
Ansari didn’t appear to burn any major bridges with CBS in that clip, so it’s highly doubtful that CBS made an issue about his remarks. Colbert even seemed to enjoy the chance to make jokes about the subject matter.
And on an even lighter note, Colbert and action star Liam Neeson recently joined forces for Candy Crush: The Movie.
Considering the fact that Activision/Blizzard just formed an entertainment studio and Activision also paid over $5.9 billion to acquire the company behind Candy Crush, it’s not just a comedy sketch…it’s an inevitability. Colbert clearly sees this possibility as well.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs nightly on CBS. Ansari’s Master of None is currently available on Netflix.
