Jurgen Klopp Mocks Mignolet After Goalkeeper’s Woeful Mistake

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp joked about goalkeeper Simon Mignolet’s awful mistake in a post-game press conference, comparing a reporter to the player after he spent too much time trying to ask a question.

During Liverpool’s Europa League match against Bordeaux, an error made by the ‘keeper led to his club conceding their first goal, after he kept his hands on the ball for 22 seconds. The referee awarded Bordeaux an indirect free kick, which they scored.

Fortunately for Mignolet, Liverpool went on to win 2-1 after Milner converted a penalty and Benteke scored a second, though it seems that Klopp won’t let his player forget about his mistake so easily. In the game’s post-match press conference, Klopp addressed a reporter who had waited until the end of the conference to ask him question, saying: “You wait this long? He wait as long as Simon Mignolet!”

Mignolet also spoke of his mistake following the match, saying (via Liverpool Echo): “The rule is six seconds but it’s not always the case that they enforce that. It wasn’t a lapse in concentration. I was just looking for the best option and trying to pick someone out.

“You know that rule is in place. It can happen. You accept that. There are lessons to be learned. Next time I’ll kick it a bit quicker! It was unfortunate that we conceded from it but the important thing is that we reacted really well after that.”
