Well, it should come as no surprise that the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens has Canada’s biggest opening weekend of all time.
More than $17 million is supposed to pass through the box office during the opening weekend of the highly-anticipated movie. In total, reports are stating that the North American total revenue was a record-breaking $238 million.
“We knew this was going to be well received but this has exceeded all expectations,” said Greg Mason, Walt Disney Studios Canada’s vice-president of marketing, to CBC News. “Canadians don’t tend to rush out as much on opening weekend as their American counterparts, although this weekend did not prove that point.”
More sequels are already in the works (and fans are already counting down to the next installment of the world-famous franchise).
