After publicly battling cancer for many years, Celine Dion’s husband and former agent Rene Angelil has died. They were married 21 years and he was 73 years old. The couple had three children together.
Just days later, Dion’s brother Daniel also succumbed to cancer. He was one of Dion’s 13 siblings and was 59 years old.
Angelil’s funeral is scheduled to take place in Montreal on Friday. Meanwhile, Dion will be buried in Repentigny, Quebec and passed away to cancer of the brain, throat and tongue (CBC News).
The premier of Quebec had this to say about Angelil’s passing: “He will be remembered as a gentle man, generous and kind, an unprecedented visionary, a modern Pygmalion, a Renaissance man,” said Philippe Chaloult. “(We) have lost a conqueror and a man of great substance and influence. He is now a part of the collective memory of the music industry, be it in Canada or elsewhere in the world” (The Canadian Press).
