‘Captain America: Civil War’ Directors Back A Scarlett Johansson ‘Black Widow’ Movie

Answering the prayers of many Marvel fans out there, or at least giving them (me) some hope, Captain America: Civil War directors Anthony and Joe Russo have told Collider they’d be behind Scarlett Johansson leading her own Black Widow movie.

“I don’t think (it’ll take) much,” Joe Russo said. “I think it’s just a function of where on the slate it goes. She’s a bada**.”

Part of The Avengers, and featured extensively across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Widow – whose real name is Natasha Romanoff – has grown on screen since her small role in Iron Man 2 as Tony Stark’s mysterious assistant to a complex and conflicted character through appearances in the Avengers movies and Captain America: Winter Soldier as well as Civil War.

However with Scar Jo already locked in to play the character in Avengers: Infinity War Pt 1 and 2 – both with the Russo brothers at the helm again – it might be a while until we get the chance to see a Black Widow movie on the big screen.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said as much when after raising hopes for a Black Widow movie last month, admitted it would take at least a few years until we would get to see it.

“Yes, for sure, I think (Black) Widow at some point would be great,” he said, before making clear would have to wait for some time before that film could be developed.

As for the Russo brothers, they are happy to see their time at Marvel continue after Infinity War.

“Our experience with Marvel has been amazing and we really do feel like we’re in our creative sweet spot there. So it’s definitely a place we’ll always think about,” Anthony said. “One of the great things about Marvel is that they like to marry genre, and who knows where it’s going to go from here,” Joe added.

“I think there are going to be some fun surprises in store over the next few years.”

Who knows? Maybe they’ll stick around long enough to direct Black Widow. After seeing Captain America: Civil War, I for one would be happy to put down my “hard earned” money to go see that.
