The Lonely Island, The Roots And Jimmy Fallon Team Up For ‘I’m On A Boat’ With Children’s Toys

Jimmy Fallon seems to have no end of musical gimmicks up his sleeve to keep The Tonight Show interesting, with the latest being a pretty bloody amazing rendition of The Lonely Island‘s hit single I’m On A Boat. Performing the song live with the boys as well as help from house band The Roots, Fallon gave the whole concept a bit of a twist by getting everyone to perform on children’s instruments.

Of course he did.

Out promoting their feature film Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (set for release Friday 3rd June), the trio of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone dressed in sailor suits (Samberg once again donning his “nautical themed pashmina afgan”) alongside Jimmy and The Roots to perform the song, in keeping with the nautical theme I guess. Everyone except Taccone though actually, who spends the whole video wearing a dunce cap and reading a book called “The Joy Of Land”. Go figure.

The track itself – released back in 2009 and famously featuring king of auto-tune T-Pain – was a viral phenomenon, with the video clip/SNL Short that accompanied it getting millions of views. Parodying rap videos in general, and very specifically Jay-Z‘s video for Big Pimpin‘, if you haven’t see it… WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING WITH YOUR LIFE.

Check out the video for yourself here.
